Every day, the world generates an average of 2.5 quintillion bytes (2.5 e+9 GB) of data. The number of active Internet of Things (IoT) devices will hit 50 billion (7 times greater than the world population) in 2021 and this will generate more data. This lecture will explain what big data is, why it has become so important, and how it can be leveraged for the benefit of hotels, resorts and other hospitality companies, illustrated by real life examples of how big data is shaping hospitality industries.
